The schedule keeps this destination as the centre of the day rather than making it a brief roadside visit. Keep binoculars ready for distant animals and birds. Tarangire has a broad mix of riverine woodland, old baobabs and open grass that gives the park a distinctive character.

Ndutu lies around the southern Serengeti ecosystem, where shallow lakes and short-grass plains become especially important during parts of the migration. Wildebeest and zebra numbers can rise dramatically in the wetter months, attracting predators that follow the availability of prey.

Lion prides, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes and many grazing mammals may be seen, but a particular sighting always depends on wildlife movements. Patient time around kopjes and drainage lines can be useful for spotting predators, while the wider grassland gives good views of moving herds.

An early descent can make better use of the permitted time on the crater floor. The vehicle follows designated tracks between different habitats. The descent reveals a broad basin with changing colours and an impressive rim above it. Weather can be cool or misty at the higher viewpoint.

This is the closing day of the route. Enjoy the final planned outing before your guide arranges the onward transfer.
