Digging Deeper, Answers to great Migration Adventures Questions

The Great Migration is an annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of fresh grazing and water.

The best time depends on the specific event you want to see:

  • Calving season (January – March) in the southern Serengeti.
  • River crossings (June – August) at the Grumeti and Mara Rivers.
  • Mara grazing season (September – October) in Masai Mara, Kenya.

The migration moves between Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in a circular pattern.

To increase your chances, visit the northern Serengeti (Tanzania) or Masai Mara (Kenya) between July and September when the herds cross the crocodile-infested rivers.
