Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Nairobi to Masai Mara
Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or airport. You'll depart for Masai Mara National Reserve, a journey of approximately 5 to 6 hours. Along the way, enjoy scenic stopovers at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for spectacular photographs.
Arrive at your camp or lodge in time for lunch, then check in and relax before heading out for your first afternoon game drive. The Masai Mara is renowned for its incredible wildlife populations, including the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—along with cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests.
After the game drive, return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay beneath the vast African sky.
Meals:Â Lunch, Dinner |Â Overnight:Â Masai Mara
Day 2 – Full Day in Masai Mara
Today belongs entirely to the Masai Mara, and a full day is exactly what this reserve rewards. After breakfast, you'll set out for a full-day game drive exploring the park's diverse habitats—from the reedy edges of Musiara Marsh to the margins of the Talek and Mara Rivers, and the open sweep of Paradise Plain.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, with opportunities to photograph Kenya's spectacular wildlife up close. The Mara holds the highest density of big cats in Africa, and a full day gives you time to find lion prides resting in the long grass, cheetah hunting in the cool morning, and leopard draped along riverine forest branches.
Optional Add-On:Â Hot Air Balloon Safari at first light, drifting silently over the waking savannah before a champagne bush breakfast.
Meals:Â Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner |Â Overnight:Â Masai Mara
Day 3 – Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, you have the option of an early morning game drive before departing for Lake Nakuru National Park. The journey takes approximately 4.5 to 5.5 hours via Narok town—the last reliable stop for fuel and supplies before the Rift Valley lakes region.
Arrive at your Lake Nakuru lodge around midday. After lunch and a short rest, head out for an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is a fenced sanctuary protecting both black and white rhino, offering one of the surest rhino encounters anywhere in East Africa.
Keep your eyes on the yellow-barked fever trees for the park's celebrated tree-climbing lions, a behavior shared with only a handful of places in Africa. The soda lake at the park's heart can turn pink with flamingos when water conditions are right, though their numbers vary from year to year.
Meals:Â Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner |Â Overnight:Â Lake Nakuru
Day 4 – Full Day in Lake Nakuru National Park
Rise early for a full day exploring this wildlife-dense park. Climb to the classic viewpoints—Baboon Cliff and the Out of Africa lookout—for sweeping panoramas over the soda lake, its shimmering pink fringe, and the dense euphorbia forest that cloaks the slopes beyond.
Down at water level, scan the acacias for resident tree-climbing lions and watch the woodland margins for leopards that slip through at dawn and dusk. Nakuru's diverse wildlife includes impala, Rothschild's giraffe, Cape buffalo, defassa waterbuck, and a bird list that runs to African fish eagle, long-crested eagle, and great white pelican massed along the shore.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site overlooking the lake before exploring a different sector of the park in the afternoon. Return to your lodge as the sun drops behind the Rift Valley escarpment.
Meals:Â Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner |Â Overnight:Â Lake Nakuru
Day 5 – Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara
After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and travel southwest toward the Masai Mara. The journey of roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours takes you back through the highlands and down to Narok before the tarmac gives way to rougher, unpaved road as you enter Maasai land.
Reach the reserve in the early afternoon, check in, and head out on an evening game drive as the heat of the day begins to lift. Even on this return visit, the scale of the place remains striking—vast horizons broken by lone balanite trees and herds of topi and zebra grazing the open grassland, with the ever-present possibility of lion, elephant, or a cheetah scanning for prey.
Return to camp at dusk for dinner under the wide Mara sky and another brilliant star-filled night.
Meals:Â Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner |Â Overnight:Â Masai Mara
Day 6 – Masai Mara to Nairobi
On your final morning, you may choose to enjoy an optional early morning game drive before breakfast. This is your last chance to capture that perfect photograph or spot any wildlife you may have missed.
After breakfast, check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi. The drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, arriving in the city in the afternoon. You'll be dropped off at your preferred location in Nairobi—your hotel or the airport—marking the end of your unforgettable safari.
