Detailed Itinerary

Your safari adventure begins with an 8:00 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel. With everyone on board, you'll embark on the journey toward Serengeti National Park. The 305-kilometer drive takes approximately 7 to 7.5 hours, passing through the scenic Great Rift Valley and the lush Ngorongoro Highlands.

The name "Serengeti" translates to "endless plains" in the local African language, and watching the grasslands stretch as far as the eye can see, eventually merging with the sky at the horizon, is an absolutely breathtaking experience. Spanning 14,763 square kilometers, the park challenges our conventional understanding of distance and space.

The Serengeti is home to the glorious Big Five—elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard—along with one of Africa's most graceful antelopes, the impala. The Serengeti ecosystem supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa.

The central portion of the Serengeti—known as the Seronera area—is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. The Seronera River provides a vital water source that attracts wildlife representative of most of the Serengeti's species. In this region, be particularly attentive for the numerous lion prides that flourish here. You'll also encounter the Serengeti's famous Kopjes—massive granite boulders rising from the sea of grass that provide shelter to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed during the day's exploration. Your eventful day concludes with dinner and a peaceful night's rest at your accommodation.

Wake early for a spectacular sunrise game drive—the best time to witness predators in action and wildlife at its most active. After returning to camp for breakfast, you'll set out for a full day exploring the vast Serengeti ecosystem.

Search for the Big Five while encountering large herds of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles. The Serengeti is also home to cheetahs, hyenas, and an incredible variety of birdlife. A picnic lunch is enjoyed at one of the park's scenic picnic sites before continuing your afternoon game drive through different wildlife-rich areas.

For travelers who have booked the optional Hot Air Balloon Safari, this unforgettable experience takes place early in the morning, followed by a champagne bush breakfast before rejoining the safari.

After an early breakfast, you'll depart Serengeti and travel toward the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. The 151-kilometer drive takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. Descend approximately 600 meters into this UNESCO World Heritage Site, often referred to as "Africa's Eden."

Enjoy a memorable five-hour game drive across the crater floor, home to one of Africa's highest concentrations of wildlife. The crater supports approximately 30,000 animals including black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and thousands of flamingos. With a little luck, you'll complete your Big Five sightings before enjoying a scenic picnic lunch at the beautiful Hippo Pool.

In the afternoon, ascend the crater walls and begin your return journey to Arusha, arriving by approximately 6:00 PM. With incredible experiences and cherished memories, it's time to bid farewell to your safari team.

In August, the Central Serengeti experiences dry and cooler weather. Daytime temperatures typically range from 20°C to 27°C (68°F to 81°F), while nighttime temperatures can drop to approximately 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F). This month falls within the dry season, so rainfall is minimal—an excellent time for wildlife viewing as animals gather near water sources. Skies are generally clear to partly cloudy, providing good visibility for photography and game drives.

In August, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area experiences mild and dry conditions. Daytime temperatures range from approximately 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 10°C to 14°C (50°F to 57°F). Rainfall is generally low, with clear skies and sunny days making it suitable for wildlife viewing. Humidity levels are lower, contributing to comfortable conditions. However, it can be cooler at higher elevations, so layering is advisable—especially in the evenings and early mornings.

August in Karatu brings mild and dry weather. Temperatures range from approximately 13°C (55°F) at night to around 24°C (75°F) during the day. Rainfall is minimal, with very little precipitation expected. Humidity levels are lower, making for comfortable outdoor activities and wildlife viewing in the nearby areas. Expect sunny days and cool evenings.

This tour begins and ends in Arusha. Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is the nearest international airport, while Arusha Airport serves domestic flights.

We do not book international flights. We can arrange local flights based on availability. Indicative additional costs are provided below.

This tour operates with road transfers between all locations. Central Serengeti is the farthest destination, approximately 7 hours from Arusha each way. To reduce driving time, you may choose to fly directly into or out of the Serengeti.

Rates include airfare plus the cost of sending the safari vehicle and guide one day in advance to Serengeti, plus additional park fees.
