Embark on an unforgettable 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari trekking adventure to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. This incredible journey takes you through a variety of landscapes, from lush rainforests to rugged alpine deserts, ultimately leading you to the snow-capped peak of Uhuru. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a first-time climber, this expedition offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand atop the “Roof of Africa” and take in breathtaking panoramic views.
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha and Pre-Trek Briefing
Your adventure begins upon arriving in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. A warm welcome awaits as you meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, you’ll attend a comprehensive briefing about the trek, covering the route, safety measures, and essential preparations. This is also the perfect time to check your gear and ask any final questions before the journey ahead. The rest of the evening is yours to relax and mentally prepare for the challenge.
Day 2: Arusha to Machame Gate – Hike to Machame Camp
After breakfast, you’ll set out for Machame Gate, the starting point of your trek along the scenic Machame Route. Once registration is complete, you’ll begin your ascent through a dense rainforest filled with towering trees, ferns, and an array of vibrant birdlife. The trail can be muddy and slippery, but the cool forest shade makes for a pleasant start. After a 5-7 hour trek, you’ll arrive at Machame Camp, located at 2,835 meters (9,300 feet), where you’ll rest for the night.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
An early breakfast fuels the next leg of your ascent as you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, with breathtaking views of Mount Meru and the expansive plains below. After 4-6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Shira Camp at 3,750 meters (12,300 feet), nestled on the Shira Plateau. This ancient volcanic caldera provides incredible panoramic vistas of Kilimanjaro’s peak. Enjoy the evening at camp, soaking in the stunning surroundings and preparing for the following day.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
This is a crucial acclimatization day as you trek from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp, passing by the striking Lava Tower, which stands at 4,600 meters (15,000 feet). The ascent over rocky terrain gradually leads to this significant landmark, where you’ll take a break and absorb the incredible views. After acclimating at Lava Tower, you’ll descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, where the imposing Barranco Wall looms ahead. Your camp for the night is at 3,900 meters (12,800 feet), where you can enjoy dinner and much-needed rest. The descent to this lower altitude after climbing to Lava Tower aids in acclimatization for the summit push.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
The day kicks off with an exhilarating climb up the Barranco Wall. Though it appears intimidating, the trail is well-defined, and with the guidance of your expert team, you’ll reach the top in about an hour. From there, the trek continues across a series of ridges and valleys, ultimately arriving at Barafu Camp, the launch point for your summit attempt. Situated at 4,673 meters (15,330 feet), Barafu Camp offers stunning views and an early evening rest in preparation for the final ascent. After dinner, you’ll get some much-needed sleep before the midnight summit push.
Day 6: Summit Attempt and Descent
Your most challenging and rewarding day begins at midnight. Under the starlit sky, you’ll start the ascent to the summit. The climb is slow and steep, but reaching Stella Point at dawn provides the first stunning glimpse of the summit. From there, it’s a final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Standing at the summit is an emotional and triumphant moment, offering breathtaking views that stretch endlessly across the horizon.
After celebrating your achievement, you’ll begin the descent back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet). Though the descent is tough on the knees, the lower altitude and sense of accomplishment make it a rewarding journey. You’ll enjoy a well-earned meal and a final night on the mountain at Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Final Descent and Return to Arusha
On the last day, you’ll make your way down to Mweka Gate, passing through lush rainforest where you may spot monkeys and vibrant birdlife along the way. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate, marking your successful Kilimanjaro climb. From there, you’ll be transferred back to Arusha, where you can unwind at your hotel or explore the town at your leisure.
This 6-day trek up Kilimanjaro is an extraordinary adventure, taking you through diverse landscapes and culminating at the legendary Uhuru Peak.
