Tour Overview

Five days link Tarangire’s woodland with the short-grass plains of Ndutu and the dramatic Ngorongoro landscape. The programme is geared towards the southern migration season, especially the months when large herds gather in the area. Wildlife movements depend on rainfall, so the value lies in visiting several nearby habitats.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Arusha and prepare for safari

During this particular stage, on arrival in Arusha, meet your safari guide and settle into the starting accommodation. Your guide will use the available hours to balance travel, stops and the principal activity. The route out of town passes settled farmland before the land opens towards the northern wildlife reserves. If you arrive late, keep the evening simple and allow enough time for rest before setting out in the safari vehicle.

The first day gives you a chance to adjust after a flight, meet your guide and check arrangements before the main wildlife outings. A change in vegetation can also change the animals you are likely to see, even within the same protected area.

This evening’s accommodation is Arusha Planet Lodge. You will have time to settle at the property selected for this part of the route before the next day begins.

Day 2

Explore Tarangire National Park

During this particular stage, continue from Arusha towards Tarangire National Park, leaving time for the day’s scheduled visits. The schedule keeps this destination as the centre of the day rather than making it a brief roadside visit. Keep binoculars ready for distant animals and birds. Photography can change quickly as animals move between trees and exposed ground. Tarangire has a broad mix of riverine woodland, old baobabs and open grass that gives the park a distinctive character.

Your lodge for the night is Eileen's Trees Inn. The evening is an opportunity to rest before another early start and review the day’s wildlife photographs.

Day 3

Explore Ndutu

On this part of the journey, continue from Tarangire National Park towards Ndutu, leaving time for the day’s scheduled visits. The plan for this stage is to spend enough time in the main area to appreciate its character. Ndutu lies around the southern Serengeti ecosystem, where shallow lakes and short-grass plains become especially important during parts of the migration. Wildebeest and zebra numbers can rise dramatically in the wetter months, attracting predators that follow the availability of prey.

For this day’s itinerary, the choice of departure time can affect both comfort and game viewing, particularly on longer driving days. The driver may pause to identify tracks or bird calls, giving you a closer understanding of what lives in the area.

The overnight stop is Sero Tented Camp. Use the quieter part of the day to recharge your camera batteries and confirm the following morning’s plan.

Main Destination: Ndutu Activities: Guided game drive and road transfer Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Accommodation options: Sero Tented Camp
Day 4

Explore Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Continue from Ndutu towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, leaving time for the day’s scheduled visits. Today concentrates on a different part of the route, with the journey arranged around the main destination. Wildlife is present in this wider conservation area, although many visitors travel through it mainly to reach the crater and nearby lodges. The highland transfer allows you to see changes in vegetation and land use before a later crater visit or onward journey.

There is no fixed list of animals that must appear on a drive, so allow room for the unexpected. Your guide can suggest suitable stopping points according to the route, daylight and conditions on the ground.

The overnight stop is Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp. You will have time to settle at the property selected for this part of the route before the next day begins.

Main Destination: Ngorongoro Conservation Area Activities: Guided game drive and road transfer Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Accommodation options: Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp
Day 5

Final Ngorongoro Crater visit and onward transfer

This is the closing day of the route. Enjoy the final planned outing before your guide arranges the onward transfer. The scenery changes again as you reach this stop on the northern Tanzania circuit. An early descent can make better use of the permitted time on the crater floor. The vehicle follows designated tracks between different habitats. The descent reveals a broad basin with changing colours and an impressive rim above it. Weather can be cool or misty at the higher viewpoint.

For this day’s itinerary, travel times can change with road conditions and animal sightings, so the guide will discuss a realistic schedule. If conditions are clear, the broad views offer a good opportunity to understand the scale of the surrounding landscape.

On this part of the journey, no overnight accommodation is listed for this final day. Confirm departure arrangements before booking.
