Where to go: Arusha, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park

Country: Tanzania

Tour Overview

Flying towards the Serengeti makes better use of five days and leaves room for a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater. You will spend several nights near wildlife areas rather than travelling back to town each evening. The route suits travellers who value comfortable tented accommodation and want the classic northern Tanzania parks together.

The 5-day private safari follows Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ngorongoro Crater. Serengeti Ngorongoro Tanzania safari is the subject of this itinerary, with clear daily stops, named accommodation and prices that depend on travel dates and group size. You can use the daily outline to see where you travel, what wildlife areas you enter and how the overnight arrangements fit together.

For 5-Day Mid-Luxury Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari (Fly-in), the stops follow the published programme, including an initial stay at Arusha Planet Lodge. Weather, park access and wildlife movement may change the exact driving route. Confirm dates, transfers and accommodation availability before booking.

Tour Highlights

  • Explore Serengeti National Park with a private driver-guide and flexible stops.
  • See how Ngorongoro Conservation Area contrasts with the first wildlife area.
  • Follow the published route through 5 days of activities and transfers.
  • Stay in named lodges or tented camps selected for each overnight stop.
  • Travel at a measured pace, allowing for wildlife movement and road conditions.
  • Use date-based USD prices for your group size when planning the booking.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Arusha and prepare for safari

On arrival in Arusha, meet your safari guide and settle into the starting accommodation. This day adds a distinct landscape to the trip and gives you another setting for guided exploration. Take time to confirm the next morning’s departure, luggage needs and any dietary requests. A relaxed start makes the early park transfers easier. The route out of town passes settled farmland before the land opens towards the northern wildlife reserves.

Smaller wildlife and birdlife deserve attention as they often reveal what larger animals have recently passed through. If you arrive late, keep the evening simple and allow enough time for rest before setting out in the safari vehicle.

The overnight stop is Arusha Planet Lodge. The next stage may use different roads and habitats, so a brief conversation with your guide is worthwhile.

Main Destination: Arusha Activities: Airport or lodge transfer Meals: At own expense Accommodation options: Arusha Planet Lodge
Day 2

Flight into the Serengeti and game viewing

Leave Arusha on the arranged domestic flight into the Serengeti, where your safari guide will take you towards the wildlife areas. Your guide will use the available hours to balance travel, stops and the principal activity. Long views across the plains contrast with rocky outcrops and isolated trees where birds and mammals may gather. Your guide can adjust the order of drives according to local conditions, track reports and the distance between wildlife areas.

The choice of departure time can affect both comfort and game viewing, particularly on longer driving days. Lion prides, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes and many grazing mammals may be seen, but a particular sighting always depends on wildlife movements.

The overnight stop is Nyota Serengeti Camp. After the day’s activities, return to your lodge and check arrangements for tomorrow.

Main Destination: Serengeti National Park Activities: Domestic flight into the Serengeti; guided game drive Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Accommodation options: Nyota Serengeti Camp
Day 3

Continue exploring Serengeti National Park

Continue from Serengeti National Park towards Serengeti National Park, leaving time for the day’s scheduled visits. The schedule keeps this destination as the centre of the day rather than making it a brief roadside visit. Your guide can adjust the order of drives according to local conditions, track reports and the distance between wildlife areas. The Serengeti is a large ecosystem of plains, seasonal rivers, kopjes and wooded sections, so the character of each drive changes with the chosen area.

The overnight stop is Nyota Serengeti Camp. Once you have reached the overnight property, you can settle in and prepare for the next change of scenery.

Day 4

Explore Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Continue from Serengeti National Park towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, leaving time for the day’s scheduled visits. The plan for this stage is to spend enough time in the main area to appreciate its character. The Ngorongoro highlands contain cooler forest, pastoral landscapes and viewpoints that contrast with the hotter plains below. Wildlife is present in this wider conservation area, although many visitors travel through it mainly to reach the crater and nearby lodges.

The highland transfer allows you to see changes in vegetation and land use before a later crater visit or onward journey. The choice of departure time can affect both comfort and game viewing, particularly on longer driving days.

The overnight stop is Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp. The next stage may use different roads and habitats, so a brief conversation with your guide is worthwhile.

Main Destination: Ngorongoro Conservation Area Activities: Guided game drive and road transfer Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Accommodation options: Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp
Day 5

Final Ngorongoro Crater visit and onward transfer

This is the closing day of the route. Enjoy the final planned outing before your guide arranges the onward transfer. Today concentrates on a different part of the route, with the journey arranged around the main destination. Buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hyena and many other animals live or move across the crater floor. Black rhino sightings remain possible but uncommon. An early descent can make better use of the permitted time on the crater floor. The vehicle follows designated tracks between different habitats.

Pack an extra layer for the crater rim and follow park guidance during any planned picnic stop. There is no fixed list of animals that must appear on a drive, so allow room for the unexpected.

This is the departure day, with no hotel night included in the package.
